WBCS Photo & Signature Requirements (2026)

West Bengal PSC's strict dimension check, size limits, and how to prepare compliant files.

WBPSC's application portal validates the photograph's dimensions strictly — a file that is close to 3.5×4.5 cm but not exactly on ratio is one of the most common reasons WBCS forms bounce. Combined with a tight 20 KB signature ceiling, it pays to prepare both files with the exact preset rather than eyeballing a crop.

Why applications get rejected

  • A photo off the exact 3.5×4.5 cm ratio
  • Photo above 50 KB
  • Signature above the 20 KB ceiling
  • A dark or patterned background instead of plain light

How to prepare your files

  1. Take a recent passport-style photo on a plain light background.
  2. Crop to exactly 3.5×4.5 cm and size it under 50 KB — aim for 30–45 KB.
  3. Sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper.
  4. Size the signature to about 4×2 cm under 20 KB and upload both.

Frequently asked questions

What is the WBCS photo size?

A JPG of 3.5×4.5 cm under 50 KB on a light background. Confirm the figures on your WBPSC advertisement.

Why does the portal reject my photo?

Most often the aspect ratio is slightly off or the file is over 50 KB. Use the exact preset so both are right.
