MPSC Photo & Signature Requirements (2026)

Maharashtra PSC's coloured-background rule, exact sizes, and why uploads get rejected.

MPSC is the one commission in this guide series whose photo rule contradicts everyone else's: rather than a white background, MPSC advertisements have asked for a passport-style photo in formals against a solid colour — preferably blue, green or red. Alongside that, MPSC's portal checks pixel dimensions strictly and explicitly rejects shadows and red-eye. Read your advertisement's photo instructions before the shoot, not after.

Why applications get rejected

  • A white-background photo where the advertisement asked for a solid colour
  • Shadows, red-eye or a tilted head — all explicitly rejected
  • Photo outside 20–50 KB or off the 3.5×4.5 cm ratio
  • A signature in capital letters instead of running handwriting

How to prepare your files

  1. Check the background rule in your advertisement, then shoot in formals against it.
  2. Size the photo to 3.5×4.5 cm (about 275×354 px) within 20–50 KB.
  3. Sign in running hand with black or blue ink on white paper.
  4. Size the signature to 3.5×1.5 cm within 10–20 KB and upload both.

Frequently asked questions

Does MPSC really want a coloured background?

MPSC's instructions have specified formals against a solid colour (preferably blue, green or red). Because this differs from most exams, always follow the current advertisement.

What is the MPSC photo size?

About 3.5×4.5 cm in JPG, between 20 KB and 50 KB, with no shadows or red-eye.
